5 Herbs and Plants for Perfect Kitchen Garden.

Women around the world have used a variety of spice and herbs for centuries to make their food taste better. Often women are asked to send in recipes from their local kitchen patterns to magazines and newspapers so that other domestic cooks might glean inspiration from these recipes. Studies have shown though, that not just any spices or herbs found in the market will do - the importance of fresh ingredients cannot be stressed enough! This is why many women grow their own gardens so that they can use the freshest ingredients possible in a variety of cooking techniques. If you’re one such woman looking forward to growing your own garden, here are some suggestions:


1. Basil

Basil is a popular herb to use in recipes from salads to soups and more. This herb has an intense clove-like smell and anise like flavour. It's great for cooking, as a fresh or dried ingredient due to its variety of different nutritional benefits which include being an effective insect repellent, deodorizer and topical antioxidant. Whether you decide to use it fresh or dried, basil will surely spice up your dish.




2. Coriander

Cilantro is a powerful herb filled with seeds that all have their own very distinct flavor. This herb is commonly used to make curries, soups and sauces. The leaves of the herb can be found in many types of dishes. Cilantro goes well in seafood, as it brings out an extra bit of taste from the food being served.



3. Lavender

Lavender is one of the most useful and versatile herbs for home use. You can find it online or offline pretty easily, usually when you're looking for things like seasonings or baking herbs. It's easy to prepare too, just by cutting off a bit of it and either using the oils or plant itself as needed. For example, it smells great with many foods and has a certain zing to it that makes the flavour much more pleasant! Not only is it delicious, but Lavender also serves many other purposes around the house such as acting as a natural pest deterrent.




4. Lemon Balm

Lemon balm (Melissa officinalis) is a perennial herb grown for its lemon scented leaves and stems. Aside from its delightful citrus aroma, the herb can be used as a wonderful addition to salads and provides a variety of health benefits. Lemon balm has traditionally been taken to address a number of painful conditions, including menstrual cramps, coughs, sleeplessness, restlessness or insomnia and nervous conditions brought on by stress. One study found that the plant can be used as an anticonvulsant treatment for epilepsy cases resistant to conventional pharmaceutical drugs.


5. Oregano

Oregano oil can be used as a natural remedy for various respiratory ailments such as colds, sore throat and cough. It may also be taken regularly to heal the digestive system and deal with parasitic infections like the fungal infections too. Oregano oil is also known to have excellent antifungal properties that may be particularly helpful in preventing skin problems including acne. Some people also use it as a powerful natural insect repellent.
