Plant Description

Alphonso (Hapus) mangoes, also known as the King of Fruits in India, comprise the most popular variety of mangos grown in the country. Although there are many species and varieties of mangoes grown in India, alphonsos are huge fruit with sweet yellow flesh given a greenish tinge when fully ripe - and they have an ambrosial taste unrivaled by other mango varieties.
There are two main types of mangoes: the 'Kesar' and the 'Alphonso'. The two varieties are very similar in terms of flavor but the flesh of the Alphonso variety is a beautiful reddish-orange color. Unripe mangoes have an astringent flavor that, ironically, is quite a mouthful on its own—unlike honey.

Alphonso Mangoes are a rich source of vitamin A, and are used by many people all around the world for managing diabetes. Mango leaves are also considered healthy and can be used as a lean protein substitute or in salads to provide additional nutrients.

You will lower your blood pressure by consuming mangos and the fruit can also be helpful in eliminating kidney and gall stones.

Mango fruit is utilized at two stages of its life – in its immature, or green state and in its mature form. Green mangoes are used as an ingredient in both savory and sweet chutneys, pickles, fruit juices, and also as an essential element in holiday favorites like sauces, preserves, and jams. When ripe, mangoes may be eaten fresh or canned to create exciting new flavor profiles like syrups, nectars, and even liqueurs.
